The Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console service began with the release of Game Boy titles in June 2011. The Game Boy Advance titles, meanwhile, were released on December 11, 2011: The selection of NES titles were released on Septem: Nintendo 3DS Ambassadors Program īefore the proper launch of the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console, Nintendo allowed users to download ten free NES and Game Boy Advance titles as part of the "Nintendo 3DS Ambassadors Program", distributed to early adopters of the system before its first price drop. Later, when asked this at the 73rd Annual General Meeting of Shareholders in 2015, Satoru Iwata responded that, despite the Virtual Boy's financial failure, he would "take note of that advice for the future." In 2010, before the launch of the system, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aimé was asked whether or not Virtual Boy games would be released through the Virtual Console service, to which Reggie responded that he could not argue for this as he lacked familiarity with the platform. When starting games, the player is given the option to enable restore points the first time they access the Virtual Console menu, and can be deactivated by pressing Start, X, and R simultaneously on the menu. Here, the player can save and load restore points, reset the game, and access various other features. A new feature for the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console is the addition of the Virtual Console menu, accessible by tapping on the bottom screen or pressing X (except with SNES games). Similar to the Wii Virtual Console service, by returning to the HOME Menu the game will create a Suspend Point, returning the player to that point in the game the next time they load the game turning off the console, however, results in the game returning to the title screen. The service then began to add Nintendo Entertainment System titles in 2012, followed by a selection of Game Gear titles between 20, TurboGrafx-16 titles in Japan in 2014, and finally began to add Super Nintendo Entertainment System games in 2016. The Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console service originally launched on June 6, 2011, alongside the launch of the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS, with Game Boy and Game Boy Color titles. This is a list of all Virtual Console releases for the Nintendo 3DS.
